WHERE to stay On Bequia

SPRING

Spring is an area around a 10 minute drive to the main harbour in Bequia - with its array of restaurants and bars. For stays in this area guests have an option of using the plentiful island taxis or private car hire for exploring the island.

There are a selection of safe trails of different grades for those that enjoy walking - Including a  must visit location for guests staying in this area, "Spring view park", with its wonderful views down the Grenadine Islands and across to St Vincent.

Spring bay has its own development free, coconut-palm fringed beach -  and is a wonderful natural option for morning walks with the sun rising over the adjacent islands of Battowia & Baliceaux.

The area is characterised by private villas of various sizes offering a range of accommodation suitable for singles, couples and groups of all sizes.  The Firefly Hotel, Bar and Restaurant are located in Spring bay - giving further accommodation options. In addition to the Firely Restaurant and located within Spring bay - you will find " The Salt Cafe". This innovative restaurant has been developed by Jerry Simpson to showcase the Grenadine sea salt produced by his local team at a renovated sugar mill within Spring bay.

a further dining option within Spring, is the Spring hotel - located at the top of "old cart road" affording views across the island.

Keen golfers missing their weekly swing whilst they are away - will be welcomed at the Bequia golf course. Located at the firefly, and whilst not a traditional golf course by any means - it does allow for a 9 holes of short golf practice.

Spring benefits from the cooling Atlantic breezes. Many guests find that a morning spent at the Leeward beaches, is perfectly complimented by a return to their villa for some poolside relaxation in the heat of the afternoon sun. These breezes help to keep mosquitos at bay - meaning that this area is often popular with visitors that are sensitive to that particular tropical nuisance.

Crescent Beach

A further 5 minutes along the windward side of Bequia you will reach Crescent Beach - in Industry bay. Any "Industry" in this area is a distant memory - with the area now characterised by a small collection of Villas.

This is a very peaceful part of the island, very safe for walks, visitors often find the beach itself is deserted. Again, most villas in this location benefit from the Atlantic breezes and have spectacular views across Grenadine islands.

The Leeward Beaches

On the Leeward side of the Island you will find the popular Beaches of Princess Margaret (known locally as Tony Gibbons beach) & Lower bay.

Both stretches of golden sand deliver that tropical paradise of your minds eye.

Princess Margaret beach has a small selection of accommodation and is home to Jacks bar - surely one of best beach bars in the world.

Lower bay, has a wider selection of accommodation, from Villa's to Apartments.

Both beach areas are linked to the main harbour via a walkway / trail. Whilst this is a good alternative for linking the three areas during daylight periods, taxis are a better option after dark.

Lower bay has several bar / restaurant options for both daytime and evening entertainment.

WHERE TO STAY ON BEQUIA

Overall, it should be remembered that Bequia is a relatively small island. Where as it  would not be practical to continually travel from the Leeward to the Windward coasts on the larger Caribbean islands, Bequia's size makes this a simple exercise - often only requiring a 10 minute journey. Bequia's geography therefore allows the visitor to get the best of both options.
